Blogging
In 2006, feeling isolated in a small college math department of three people, I jumped on the then-cutting-edge bandwagon of blogging with Casting Out Nines. Starting small, I wrote up short articles on my thoughts about teaching and higher education a few times a week and — very slowly — built an audience. That audience grew into a worldwide community of people interested in real innovation in higher education, and launched me into the world of speaking, consulting, and writing full length books.
Almost two decades later, blogging is still my first love and where I have my most real voice. I write at two Substack publications:
Grading For Growth (with David Clark) — Research, practice, and ideas about better ways to evaluate and grade students in higher education.
Intentional Academia — Practical steps within coherent frameworks for finding purpose and productivity as a higher education professional.
